Vienna Acoustics Mozart Grand SE
Hearing Jennifer Warnes’s voice reproduced so smoothly and seductively had me wondering about male voices, so I played Willie Nelson’s Stardust (CD, Columbia/Legacy CK 65946). Vienna Acoustics The Kiss
The Kiss was exquisitely capable of revealing the emotional core of every type of music I played through it. There are speakers that I judge accurate but never really warm up to. The Kiss was not one of them. Part of its cuddle factor may well have been the seamless response of its midrange driver. Certainly, Vienna Acoustics isn't wrong when they point out that this driver alone covers the entire vocal range—which you'd think would beat any multiple-driver combination, which of course would require the services of a crossover somewhere in there.

The ease with which the system produced the deepest, pitch-correct electric bass notes and the most intense cymbal crashes and woody rim shots put this system in a league of its own. It easily competed with my two-channel rig in all of the parameters I hold fundamentally critical, thanks in part to the uncompressed, lossless audio we’re now so lucky to have with Blu-ray.
