Totem Arro Speakers
I've got a taste for products with musical soul. A speaker's impedance curve may be flat and easy and the frequency response ruler-straight but it all don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing. Or, as our editor is fond of saying - it's got to have the luv. If you're a moonie, I think you know just what we mean and I guess that's why most of the HiFi I find myself making eyes at has some kind of exotic pedigree. I just love those products which are really hard to obtain or of which they only make 20 a year. Take Joe Fratus' Art Audio amps, for instance - relatively hard to come by but beautiful. If you have any questions, you ring Art Audio and the man himself answers the phone - in other words, my kind of product. Just try getting either Bowers or Wilkins on the line if you've got a question about your new B&Ws ...

Totem Rainmaker Speakers
I have concluded that I am blessed.
Lounging around the house on a recent weekend, sipping wine and listening to music, the total experience of grape-infused musical involvement got me a bit teary-eyed, and I counted up my blessings. I have a perfect wife, two fantastic kids, and a job I enjoy that pays me more money than I need. (And no, I'm not stupid; my boss doesn't read Stereophile.) I have my health, and have enough musical talent that I can create my own music (though I wish I had more time to do so).

Totem Model 1 Speakers
The word totem is powerful in its own right. Totems have conscious and unconscious meanings, depicting powerful supernatural forces in nature and within us. Native Americans of the Northwest Coast tribes, starting with the Chippewa, or Ojibwa, used the term for the animals or birds associated with their clans. Tall wooden columns were carved with the clan totem, which could be a bird, fish, animal, or plant. Later, the Kwakiutls of the Pacific Northwest held feasts called Potlatches, during which poles carved with family and clan emblems were erected. Totems were also involved in worship and rites of passage.

Totem Mani-2 Speakers
On the face of it, the Totem Mani-2 represents poor value for money—nearly $4000 for a pair of conventional-looking minimonitors, not including stands. Yet its combination of clean treble, transparent midrange, natural dynamics, and powerful extended bass allowed the speakers to step to one side, allowing the music to communicate in a most effective manner. It is one of the few speakers I could happily live with. If you have a smallish room, and you value bass extension and are prepared to pay for it, the Mani-2 can be enthusiastically recommended.
