Rega Turntables

Preview
Rega's philosophy is to make high quality products at sensible prices, as a means of reproducing music as faithfully as possible. We are committed to the design and development of new and existing products, both in hi-fi and other areas, that will perpetuate Rega's values of quality and value for money.

Turntables

Designed and engineered to achieve outstanding performance way beyond the expectations of a product at this price point. Excellent build quality, reliability and ease of use combine to make a product which will offer a lifetime of musical enjoyment. Omitting all the usual gimmicks allows us to concentrate the manufacturing costs on the high quality parts necessary to reproduce records accurately. Using a manual speed change rather than an automatic mechanism, eliminates speed inconsistencies and reduces wear of the drive belt. The money we save is spent across the design including a new hand assembled RB101 tonearm, precision main bearing, phenolic resin platter and a high quality low vibration motor which would normally be used on a turntable costing two or three times the amount.

MM/MC Cartridges

When asked by our customers to produce an MC cartridge we decided to analyse existing designs on the market. We were astonished to discover that 99% of the products followed the same design principles established almost 50 years ago when materials and manufacturing processes were far less advanced than today.

Conventional MC cartridges utilize a steel suspension system (tie wire) which creates a high amplitude H.F resonance (normally around 8-12Khz). Such resonance is unacceptable and is usually damped by a rudimentary piece of foam rubber. However the foam rubber deteriorates with age and cannot prevent the complete structure from vibrating and "ringing".

Tonearms

The first Rega turntables built during the 70's carried a Rega designed Japanese built 'S' shaped tonearm called the R200. By 1983 the time had come for Rega to design and build its own tonearm and so the world famous RB300 (Rega Britain) was born. The high pressure die-cast silicon alloy tube alone took two years to develop alongside the UK's largest die-cast company. The work and our casting subsequently won us an "international casting award" from America for what is still considered today to be a technically impossible casting. See if you can find one the same! Since its conception we have sold over 400,000 of the now legendary RB300 derived tonearm.

Reviews
  • Rega P1

The Rega P1 marks the first time in my experience that a designer whose work sometimes ranks with the very best you can buy, has created an audio component this affordable. And by affordable I don't mean relatively affordable, as with our favorite entry-level Koetsus, entry-level Wilsons, and even entry-level Linns. I mean affordable as in cheap, as in sane, as in reachable by anyone with a job.

    Rega P3-24/Elys 2

Up and running, this deck is a sonic superstar. It latches onto the musical message with a skill that evades most class rivals. Listen to Mary J Blige’s No More Drama, or Orff’s Carmina Burana, and you’ll find the Rega’s timing and dynamics are class-leading, as is the overall level of transparency. Spend more on a turntable and you’ll get greater insight into a recording, particularly at the frequency extremes, but at this price it’s a strong contender for top spot.
